The Oojamaflip with Finicky Gimmicky Bit Tractor Tony has been ploughing the fields of Pond Farm for years. A new tractor enters the fray loaded with new fangled gizmos and immediately gets the job of ploughing the farm, relegating Tony to compost shifting. Yet newer doesn’t always mean better, and when the new tractor breaks down with a broken oojamaflip with finicky gimmicky bit, Tony resumes ploughing duties.
Flip Flop Holiday Flip and Flop are two aliens that fly to Earth for a holiday in a flying cup and introduce themselves to a cow they meet in a field. Whilst Flip and Flop look around, the cow walks into their spaceship, ends up on Flip and Flop’s planet and nearly starts an interplanetary incident. At the same time Flip and Flop get themselves muddled up in a farm shop. Eventually more by accident then design the mishaps and misunderstandings work themselves through!
The Grinning Tiger A story about three tigers. The first is blessed with the longest tail, the second has the best stripes, and the last has the biggest grin in the jungle. Across a clearing they see three tigers blessed with better attributes, making them all unhappy and wiping the smile off the grinning tiger’s face. Only when the tigers confront the impostors do they realise that their rivals are in fact paintings of them, created in tribute by admiring local villagers.
Oak’s Itch This is a story unique from other children’s stories in its choice of main character and use of descriptive language. The story is about Oak, a great old tree who lives in a park, developing an itch on the knot of his nose stump. Being a tree he isn’t equipped to scratch it. His friends Cherry and Elm send over a squirrel and a woodpecker to try and relieve Oak’s itch but neither succeeds. Oak is eventually relieved by a boy who has kicked a ball into one of his branches.
Is there a bear in the house? Sally hears a loud growling coming from downstairs in her house, and calls for her mummy, asking the question, “Is there a bear in the house?” They investigate and find that the growling is actually daddy snoring in front of the television. The next night the same thing happens, except this time it is daddy that comes and mummy making the noise. The night after that, Sally again hears the growling, but when no one comes, she goes downstairs with her teddy and finds both parents asleep, concluding that a bear in the house may actually be quieter.
The Butterfly Effect Two boys Oliver and Joshua are trying to fly a kite on a calm day but it won’t stay in the air. They attach a propeller to it, the kite crashes. They fire it in a catapult, the kite crashes. They fasten a helium balloon to it, the kite crashes. Finally they try blowing it into the air with all of their friends but still the kite crashes. Then they hear about The Butterfly Effect, and when they try harnessing it, the kite soars.
